So, the holidays have been a bit strange this year. A global pandemic, money problems, crushing existential dread. Some folks can’t get close enough to their families, others can’t escape them. It’s easy in times like these to romanticize; to look back through a rosy portal at the past, time filtering out the imperfections, and long for the way Thanksgiving “used to be.”
During such delicate, emotionally triggering times, it’s our professional duty to remind you all: Thanksgiving is a shit show. Seriously. Always has been. The “first Thanksgiving” was, at best, an anxious and unsatisfying day. (At worst it was an utter fabrication used to manipulate people into making hand turkeys every November). The pressure of the holidays has been making people crazy for generations, and there’s a legacy of police reports to prove it.
